Week 3 EOC

Where are you now and where are you going

Right now I am in the process of trying to find any work that is related to the film industry. Looking on various websites and trying to make any and all film conventions that are happening in town. Things are not going to well for me right now because of the fact that I do not have a car. Ever since I got into a car accident on Christmas of 2010 my life has been very difficult. My friends seem to have given me the cold shoulder, so getting a form of transportation from them is almost impossible, so my means of transportation right now is my mother. But on a good note, right now I am in the process with a friend of mine on getting a website started about the EDM and EDM events that are happening in the las vegas area. I think that this website could really take off and it would really help me due to the fact that I will be covering all the video and video editing and motion graphics, so that will definitely help me and my videography. In the future I see myself working for a big time corporation like New Line Cinema, Columbia Pictures, etc., working right next to Michael Bay or maybe even Steven Spielberg, but only time will tell what the future holds but as of now, I am working on my website and getting together my demo reel so that will help me sell myself.

Picture 2

This picture represents how I work on post production. Although in the film industry I work in not just post production, but also in pre production and also in the filming process itself. Most of the stuff that I work on in post production is editing and special effects. Mostly working in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, post production takes up a lot of time (which is probably one of the reasons why it takes so long for a movie to come out) but as I edit and do motion graphics, I find it is a lot of fun. As I have worked on a real movie set before, I find that I would have to put in at least 12 hours a day (on a good day) and then after that would have to put in probably another five hours of work in post production, but that is ok because it is fun and this is what I am going to school for. If someone wants me to edit something or put in some motion graphics, they always want it done a certain way, they want this, they want that and I try to accommodate them doing it for them, but that just takes more and more time for me to put in, but that's just the way it goes.

Festival Film

This is a short film about how I feel that my life is going right with no job and no car. Because I feel that ever since I got into an accident last year (Christmas), I feel that all of my friends have sort of given me the cold shoulder. They don't talk to me anymore, they message me on Facebook, I don't even get a text anymore, and when they DO contact me, they only contact me if they want something. But it's not just about my life, it talks a little about how I feel the economy is right now. If I cant afford to earn more points to put into this small short film, I cant afford to do hardly anything. But as life goes on I am in the process of trying to find a job in my field of study. What makes this really hard is that I need to go to these film festivals and film conventions, but it makes it almost impossible because I don't have a car, I know there is always the bus to take there and I might find someone there that could take me home and all that, but I really do not want to take that risk, because if no one is willing to take me home and the buses have stop running, well then I am stuck there. But all will be better soon because as I am trying to find a job I am also saving up for a car.

Week 2 EOC

After looking at a few different websites about copyright law, I must say that it would probably take a life time just to get through every single “law” that this country has to offer about copyright. Which is to be expected because the entertainment industry is this countries main export so it is to be expected to have every aspect or at least cover as much as this country can about protection under copyright. In most of the websites that I have visited most of them start out with them saying where copyright law was mainly introduced, basically the Copyright Act of 1976. Mostly from what I see from these different copyright websites is that the laws are in different chapters and in these different chapters is just tons and tons of information about what a person or business is capable of doing to protect its ideas and or inventions. Among all these websites that I have visited one thing remains a fact is that you are going to need a lawyer to help you find all the information that you need and help you in the time of need if or when you have a copyright issue. I don’t think the normal average person could possibly go through all this copyright law with just the basic knowledge.

Week 1 EOC

The sacrifices that I am willing to make for my career is very open. I’m not going to say that I would do anything for my career, like go as far as killing someone for example, but if I were to get a job offer that would involve me having to move to a different city (all expenses paid of course) then yes, that is a sacrifice that I would definitely make in order to have my career take off. Course there are sacrifices that I would also make towards my career which would involve me working on a project for free. Say for instance an internship job to where it is unpaid. If it is for a low budget film or something like that, then I would definitely take it because it would be a great way for me to network myself into the industry. But after the first time working with them not getting paid and then they would call me again wanting me to work for them again, unpaid, I’m afraid that I would probably have to say no only for the fact that they have seen the work that I am capable of and they still would think of me as free labor. After working with them on a previous film, 12 to 15 hours on a set here and there, unpaid and then their going to call me up to do the same thing, I’m sorry but in a situation like that I would have to say that I would stick to my guns and tell them no because I would work for them once for free, but not a second time, I mean if I would continue to work for free then I think that would build a bum reputation for me as a film maker.

Week 1 BOC

Where I think I will be living in five years is possibly both Las Vegas and in Los Angeles because in my field of career, the film industry, I would be moving around a lot. When you do a feature film, you are not shooting just in one location, you go to many parts of the country, possibly the world, to get that perfect shot for a scene. So to answer the question on if I am going to be in Las Vegas in five years is yes. Las Vegas will be my home, but I will hardly be here because my work would be all around the country filming.
